VALUATIONIQ™

What is the business likely worth?

A multi-method benchmark built on seller’s discretionary earnings (SDE), industry multiples and the three risks buyers discount most. Illustrative estimate only — not an appraisal.

  1. 1. Pick the industry

Small businesses sell for a multiple of SDE, not revenue. Your industry sets the starting range.

  2. 2. Enter revenue & SDE

SDE = net profit plus one owner’s pay and provable add-backs. Use tax-return figures, not bank deposits.

  3. 3. Score the 3 risks

Be honest: owner reliance, client concentration and messy books are what buyers discount most.

  4. 4. Use the result

Read the value range, email yourself a printable memo, then test the debt in Rubicon.

ValuationIQ™ produces educational estimates from the figures you enter. It is not a certified appraisal (ASA, CVA or similar), a fairness opinion, tax or legal advice, or an offer or commitment to lend. Actual value depends on diligence, deal terms and market conditions. SBA-financed purchases generally require an independent business valuation by a qualified appraiser.

Frequently asked questions

How does the ValuationIQ™ business valuation calculator work?
It multiplies your seller’s discretionary earnings (SDE) by a conservative industry multiple band, then adjusts within that band for owner dependency, customer concentration and the quality of your financial records.
What is SDE?
Seller’s discretionary earnings is net profit plus one owner’s salary, interest, depreciation, documented personal expenses run through the business and true one-time costs. Only add-backs you can prove count.
Is this an appraisal?
No. Results are educational estimates, not a certified appraisal, fairness opinion or offer to lend. SBA-financed purchases generally require an independent valuation by a qualified appraiser.
Can I use it for a Canadian business?
Yes. Switch the currency to CAD. SBA programs apply only to eligible U.S. businesses; Canadian purchases use different financing programs.
What should I do after I get a value?
Send the estimate into the Rubicon Acquisition Gauge™ to check whether the business’s cash flow can carry the acquisition debt after the owner’s salary.
