Freight Factoring for Trucking Companies
Fuel, insurance and repairs come due whether a shipper has paid or not. Freight factoring may turn eligible invoices for completed loads into working cash, subject to verification and contract terms.
It is a receivables transaction, not a promise that every load will qualify. Trifecta Business Group helps carriers and owner-operators understand the structure before committing. One advisor matches the file to one lending desk at a time; the file is never sold or auctioned. There is no hard credit pull to explore your options. Commercial financing only. Approval is never guaranteed, and timing depends on the program and the lender.
01 · Freight Factoring for Trucking CompaniesHow Freight Factoring Works
After completing a load, a carrier submits an invoice with the documents needed to verify delivery and payment responsibility. Review can include the rate confirmation, signed proof of delivery, customer information and any existing factoring agreement. The invoice must represent work actually completed; a booked load is not the same as an eligible receivable.
If the invoice is accepted, the agreement determines the initial advance, reserve and how collection works. When the customer pays, remaining proceeds may be released after contractual fees or adjustments. Ask who verifies the load, who contacts the customer and which payment instructions you must use. Disputes, shortages and missing paperwork can change eligibility.
Recourse vs Non-Recourse
Recourse generally means the carrier retains responsibility to repay or replace an invoice when specified events occur. Non-recourse does not mean protection against every reason a customer might fail to pay. Coverage may be limited to defined credit events, with exclusions for disputes, fraud, documentation issues and other circumstances.
Read the agreement rather than relying on the label. Ask when an invoice can be charged back, whether reserves can be offset against another invoice and what happens if a broker disputes delivery. Compare collection responsibilities and credit protection alongside price. A lower advertised fee is not necessarily a better fit if the remaining risk falls on your business.
Costs and Advance Rates
The quoted fee range and advance-rate range vary by program; neither should be treated as a promised amount. Request the actual range for your approved customer accounts and ask which circumstances change it. Pricing may reflect payment time, customer credit, volume, concentration and the services included. Unverified headline percentages are not a substitute for a written proposal.
Compare total dollar cost, the reserve held back, minimum-volume provisions, transfer charges, collection fees and termination obligations. Ask whether fees increase as an invoice ages and when reserves are released. Model the cash available after all charges against fuel, insurance and repairs. An advance is not the same as your final net proceeds, and collection delays can affect both.
Factoring Plus Truck Financing Together
Factoring and truck financing may serve different needs: receivables support operating cash flow, while equipment financing supports a commercial vehicle purchase. Using both requires review of existing collateral claims, agreements and payment obligations. Do not assume that a receivables transaction leaves every other asset or financing option unaffected.
Bring your current debt schedule and disclose any blanket lien, existing factor or vehicle loan. Your advisor reviews whether the proposed structures can coexist before the file moves forward. Compare invoice proceeds with operating expenses and the truck payment, allowing for delayed collections and downtime. See our trucking and invoice factoring pages for the broader distinctions; additional financing requires a separate review.
Getting Started
Prepare recent business bank statements, an invoice aging report, sample invoices and supporting load documents. Include customer details, current factoring commitments and the purpose of the request. Use the secure application and document upload rather than sending sensitive identification or account information in ordinary email. Requirements depend on the file; no minimum business age or deposit level is stated here.
Your advisor reviews the business and explains any state or product restrictions before matching the file. If terms become available, compare the total cost, reserve, collection process and exit obligations before accepting. There is no hard credit pull to explore your options; a later inquiry requires its own authorization process. Approval is never guaranteed, and timing depends on the program and the lender.

Questions, Answered
Eligible invoices generally represent completed loads with verifiable delivery and payment responsibility. Bring invoices, rate confirmations and supporting delivery documents. Customer credit, disputes, aging and existing liens affect review. Approval is never guaranteed, and timing depends on the program and the lender.
No. Non-recourse coverage depends on the agreement and may cover only defined customer credit events. Disputes, fraud and documentation problems can remain your responsibility. Review exclusions, chargebacks and reserve offsets carefully rather than assuming the label eliminates every collection risk for your business.
Fees and advance-rate ranges vary by program, customer credit and collection time. Request total dollar cost, reserve release terms and every additional charge. Compare a realistic collection scenario rather than a headline percentage; rates and amounts are not guaranteed for any particular file.
The two structures may coexist if contracts, collateral claims and cash flow allow. Disclose current factoring agreements, vehicle financing and other liens. One advisor matches the file to one lending desk at a time; another financing request needs its own review and authorization.
There is no hard credit pull to explore your options. A later review may require additional credit authorization, including checks relevant to the business or its customers. Confirm the inquiry type before consenting. Commercial financing only; your file is never sold or auctioned.
